Liverpool Pierhead and Albert Dock

Whenever I visit Liverpool, I am invariably drawn to the Pierhead and Docks area.

There is so much wonderful architecture, both traditional and modern, to photograph.

The wide-open spaces that the buildings exist in create ideal conditions to show them off.

Here then, a selection from a crisp, clear, cold afternoon on the waterfront.

Royal Marines (Portsmouth) Band Performance

On Sunday I attended the annual Military Band Concert in the wonderfully restored bandstand at Mesnes Park, Wigan.

Over the past 10 years, thanks to the Friends of the Park, Wigan Council, and a legacy from the Higham Florists family, the park has been transformed, and the annual concert is a stipulation from the will of William Higham that a military band plays once a year.

This year it was the Royal Marines (Portsmouth) Band that provide the entertainment, which they did with superb professionalism and musical talent.

This is the first time I have attempted 'live performance' photography, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Here are the results!

Rossall Point

Josie and I made our first visit to the coastline above Blackpool, an area above Cleveleys known as Rossall Point and recently subject of a vast new sea defences project.

The coastline here is quite stunning and the promenade wall and defencework are really fantastic.
The tide was rapidly rising on a strong onshore wind that was whipping the sea up.
