Johnson's Hillock Open Day

The stretch of the Leeds/Liverpool Canal North of Chorley is having new Lock gates fitted on various sections of the Johnson's Hillock rises, 7 locks in all.

The Canal and River Trust had a very informative Open Day to give people a chance to get up close to the locks and see the work that goes into the maintenance of the canal.

Fairy Glen Winter Sunshine

This is a great place to visit at any time of the year, and today was my first opportunity of the Winter months. The Sun was very bright but low in the sky, ideal for long deep shadows and bright highlights.

After heavy rain yesterday, I knew the small river would be in full flow, so took my Fuji XT2, wide angle 10-24mm lens, 3LeggedThing tripod and my Formatt-Hitech ND filter to make some long exposure images.

On the way to and from my chosen site however, I used my trusty Sony RX100 Mk2 to get images of the trail around the woods, and here are the results!

Johnson's Hillock, Chorley

This area of the Leeds/Liverpool Canal between Chorley and Wheelton climbs through 7 locks from Bottom Lock No.64 to Top Lock No.58.

I spent a very enjoyable hour and a half climbing up and back through this series of Locks, so here are the results.

As usual, I spent much of my time looking for details, rather than the wider picture, and I used my new Fuji 50-140mm lens for the first time.
