Manchester Northern Quarter

I spent a damp three hours in the culture quarter of Manchester today, looking for typically arty stuff to photograph!
Here are the results!

St Annes Pier - Studies

I spent about 20mns at this weather-beaten and rusted structure, and discovered it was the original Landing Jetty for Pleasure Steamers at the end of the pier.
I was surprised that the sea barely reached it, knowing that it was full tide at the time, and then found out that due to dredging of the Ribble Estuary in the early 1900's, the Steamers could no longer reach the jetty as it was left high and dry!
Two large halls between the remaining pier and the jetty burned down in the 70's and 80's, leading to the jetty's splendid isolation!
I loved the starkness of the weathered wood and rusty metal, so went mainly for Black and White, some HDR shots.

St Annes-On-Sea

Despite both having a heavy head cold, Josie and I decided to adopt a 'kill or cure' approach, and travelled to the seaside for some bracing sea air!

Suffice to say, we both felt the benefits of a warm, late Spring day, but now I have a glowing red head to complement my bunged-up face!

Scarisbrick

Josie and I parked at Scarisbrick Marina for our walk. It opened in March 2009 with moorings for up to 200 boats. The cafe serves wonderful 'home-cooked' food and delicious cakes, and with sunny outside seating is a lovely place to visit.
We walked the Leeds/Liverpool canal Eastwards towards Burscough, but found ourselves wandering into the woods at the side of the Canal. It was only when we came out that we saw the 'Private Property' signs nailed to the trees!!
Ooops!!!
