Scotmans Flash, Early Riser!

Since the bright dawn woke me about 6am, I decided not to roll over for an extra hour, and went off to one of my regular areas, Scotmans Flash and the Leigh Branch of the Leeds/Liverpool Canal in Poolstock to see how the light was falling and what the wildlife was up to!

Windy Arbour Solstice Sunset

I decided to stay local to photograph the Solstice Sunset so headed up to the highest part of Winstanley, just off the 'Two Mile Stretch' and a developing crop field.

The light on the crops was just right for as many close-ups as large landscapes, so here's a mixture of Solstice images.

Summer Wildlife at Scotmans Flash, Wigan

With an hour to spare, I took my Fuji XH1 coupled with the superb Fuji 50-140mm lens to a wonderful wildlife oasis in Poolstock, Wigan, where the Leigh Branch of the Leeds/Liverpool Canal weaves through the Greenheart Flashes created years ago by collapsing mineworkings.

This is now a haven for birds of all kinds, so today I created images with Canada Geese, Greylag Geese and their Goslings, Swans and a nesting pair of Crested Grebes.
